Readers Respond: The best and worst of Bayside

Bayside is a suburban neighborhood on the northeast spur of Queens. Its mix of housing, shopping and restaurants, highly-rated schools, and LIRR train station make it a desirable place to live.

What do like about Bayside? What can't you stand? What do miss from the old days in Bayside?

I have lived in bayside for years and I have never been frisked once, nor have I seen a drug dealer anywhere. Bayside has one of the lowest crime rates in NYC. If you look like a punk, hood or thug walking the streets then maybe the cops will frisk you, but what do you expect...that is why the neighborhood is so safe, the cops do their job and keep the undesireables away.

Bayside

Safe neighborhood in terms of violent crime, charming houses, good schools, fun nightlife without manhattan prices. - No subway service without busing it to Flushing - Old historical houses are being torn down by the asians in place of ugly generic badly designed mcmansions - Streets are flooded with massive amounts of drugs. From the lower class of bayside and people who've moved here from ghettos who sell them, and the rich white kids who buy them. Bayside is a major drug area with much of the high grade marijuana in eastern queens coming directly from here. Pills, cocaine and heroin are a growing problem with lots of deaths between 2008-2011 -Not enough things for teenagers to do which leads to drug use. -Park is no longer a place where kids can hang out. Police are increasing distruptive and harsh, giving out tickets and arresting kids as young as 13 for the most meager of things. -If you are under 25, you will be randomly stopped by police and ille frisked at least 3 times a yea
