Jazz legend Louis Armstrong and his wife, Lucille, called a simple brick house in Corona home --even at the height of his fame. The dwelling is now a museum called the Louis Armstrong House (34-56 107th Street), dedicated to preserving Satchmo's recordings and mementos. (Take the 7 train to 103rd Street-Corona Plaza. Walk north on 103rd Street. After two blocks, turn right onto 37th Avenue. Walk four short blocks, then turn left onto 107th Street. The museum is half a block down on the left.)
Though it's a bit off the subway line, if it's a hot day, you might want to make a detour to the Lemon Ice King of Corona (52-02 108th St), a perennial favorite and a lasting vestige of what was once an Italian neighborhood. (From the 111th Street station, walk 11 blocks south on 111th Street, and turn right on 52nd Avenue.)
