Colombian Independence Day Festival in Flushing Meadows

By John Roleke, About.com

Hot on the heels of celebrating American independence, there's the big party for the Independence of Colombia on July 19, in Flushing Meadows Park. There'll be music, food, dance, beauty pageant queens, and plenty of yellow, blue, and red Colombian flags, especially at the festival site just south of the Unisphere.

If there are clear skies for at least an hour, the park will get packed (the crowd may number more than 100,000) as folks spend the day BBQing and kicking it. The festival is always one of the most popular events held in Flushing Meadows, and the park is awash with Colombia's red, blue, and yellow colors.
