Seen during construction, artist Jenny Polak's Mobile House for Urban Migrant Worker is a refuge hidden in plain sight. Conceived as a two-story shelter for illegal aliens working in urban trades like construction, it's meant to question the status of illegal workers in the United States. (And offer a practical answer to the question of how they can afford housing.)

It's camouflaged as a tree, but like a disguised cell phone tower, it fools only those who choose to see its disguise. It's hidden barely, like the lives of the thousands of illegals working in New York City.

Unfortunately, this installation for Jamaica Flux could not find a home on Jamaica Avenue, but sits next to the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, 89-90 164th Street, Jamaica, NY.
