The installation Jamecos Trading Post in King Manor Park is set to function as a real trading post. The artist Diane Meyer hopes locals will bring in photos and personal items for trade and barter.
Jamecos Trading Post is scheduled to be open Fridays and Saturdays, noon to 6 p.m., September 29 to November 17, 2007. (More Jamaica Flux art in King Manor Park)
The word Jamecos refers to the Jamecos tribe of Native Americans who lived the Jamaica area when English colonists first settled in the area. The name Jamaica is derived from Jamecos (as is supposedly the island of Jamaica).
