Sunday, September 11, 2011, marks the tenth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. In memorial events and in our hearts Queens will remember the family, friends, and neighbors we lost on 9/11. We will never forget.

  • Candlelight Ceremony in Astoria Heights - United Community Civic Association/Port Authority of NY & NJ - Annual candlelight ceremony at memorial grove in McManus Memorial Park (81st St and Grand Central Pkwy, Astoria Heights), 7:30 p.m., September 8, 2011
  • A Conversation About 9/11 & Service
    Saturday, September 10,, 2011, 1 p.m.
    Greater Astoria Historical Society, 35-20 Broadway, 4th Floor, Long Island City
    Join the GAHS for a discussion regarding the way service has made a difference in people's lives, through connection and transformation. Ric Burns' documentary "New York," will also be shown. Free.
  • World Trade Center Memorial Ceremony in Maspeth on Friday, September 9, at 11 a.m. at Maspeth Memorial Park, 69th St and Grand Ave.
  • September 11 Memorial Service at First Responders Monument

    Memorial service at monuments to the New York City police officers, firefighters, and Port Authority police officers who were killed in the line of duty at the World Trade Center. Reading of names and video.

  • 9/11 Memorial in Glendale - The memorial is dedicated to the 42 victims from Glendale, Ridgewood, Middle Village and Woodhaven. There's a ceremony on September 11, 2011. I have conflicting info -- it's either at 10 a.m. or at 1 p.m. If you know, please email queens.guide@about.com. I do know it is always a good place to visit and reflect on 9/11. Dry Harbor Playground, Myrtle Ave and 80th St, Glendale.
  • Bayside Hills - Every year people gather at the memorial plaque (Bell Blvd and the Horace Harding Expy, Bayside), September 11, 2011. Bayside Hills Civic Association. Bring candles.
  • Juniper Valley Park Candlelight Vigil - Every year people gather to remember at a candlelight vigil in Juniper Valley Park (between 77th and 78th Sts), the evening of September 11, 2011, starting at 7 p.m. Bring a chair, blanket, flag, and flashlight. If the sky is clear, there's a chance to see, in the distance the memorial lights -- Tribute in Light -- in Manhattan. There will be a dedication of a new memorial garden.
  • In Breezy Point, usually an outdoor mass on the evening of 9/11 is held at the 9/11 Memorial, Tribute Park (Rockaway Point Blvd and Beach 218th St), but I haven't been able to confirm for 2011. Parking is possible at the church across the street, or else farther east on Rockaway Point near Beach 209th. Even if there isn't an event, the Breezy Point 9/11 Memorial at Tribute Park is a profound place to visit and remember.
  • September 11 - Art show at PS 1. Curator Peter Eleey bring together some 70 works by 41 artists, including John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Only one made in response to the attacks. Through January 9, 2012.
