Cunningham Idyll

Where in the World Is Newtown Creek?

Cruise Up Newtown Creek - July 13, 2008
  • New York City's hidden waterway Newtown Creek is very much in the news after a long slumber. Hopes for a major clean-up float. This annual boat trip is an excursion into what industrial New York doth wrought in the 20th century.

Party the Park

Colombian Independence Day Festival - July 20, 2009
  • Want to party with the Colombians? One of the biggest outdoor events in New York City, the Colombian Independence Day Festival fills up Flushing Meadows Park like little else. Expect fits of yellow, red, and blue, plus bbq and music.

Move Mountains

Gospelfest at Baisley Pond Park - July 26, 2008
  • Gospel singers and choirs from across the city and from New England gather outdoors in the park. As their voices wash over you at this afternoon and evening event (3-8 p.m.), there's face painting and crafts for the kids to do.

At a Real Farm, a Powerful Dance

30th Annual Thunderbird American Indian Mid-Summer Powwow - July 25-27, 2008
