Queens supports more than 10 CSAs, connecting neighborhoods to farms, and the number has gone up almost every year.
CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) are a way to connect a specific farm with people in the city. A CSA farmer sells shares of upcoming harvests to the CSA group, which in turn distributes the harvest to its members. It's a way to get fresh, locally grown produce, and support independent farms in the greater tri-state region. (It's also good for your health to eat more veggies and fruits.)
You can find more about CSAs in New York at Just Food, a non-profit that supports CSAs, local agriculture, and community gardens in New York City.
