Hillcrest, NY: Residential Neighborhood in Central Queens

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Hillcrest is a small residential neighborhood in the center of Queens. Its name derives from its location on the hills between Jamaica and Flushing. The neighborhood runs from Grand Central Parkway to 73rd Avenue, between Utopia Parkway and Parson's Boulevard. Union Turnpike is its main commercial strip.

Two powerful local institutions, St. John's University and Queens Hospital Center, dominate the area, and both have expanded in recent years. Their activities are in contrast to Hillcrest's quiet, residential side streets, lined with trees and one-family and row houses.
