Casinos in and near New York City


As casino gambling has spread throughout the country, New Yorkers have a whole range of gambling options within three hours drive of the city. Atlantic City had been the only option besides cruise ships and Las Vegas until the early 2000s. Here are some of the closest casinos to New York City, and one within the five boroughs.

The Resorts World Casino at Aqueduct in Queens is the only casino within New York City's boundaries. The casino opened in 2011 as a racino at Aqueduct, the horse racing track. New York State allows video slot gambling at selected horse racing arenas, hence the name "racino." Video slot machines and video table games are played. The casino is relatively small, but has been extraordinarily successful, bringing in more money per slot machines than almost anywhere else in the country.

Atlantic City

There are 11 casinos awaiting you in Atlantic City. It's the largest concentration of gambling in the tri-state area. Buses bringing gamblers to Atlatnic City from New York City have been a mainstay for years. It's about two hours to Atlantic City.

Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut

Located in Uncasville, Connecticut, about two and a half hours from New York Mohegan Sun is one of the largest casino in the United States. The casino has slots table games, and poker. It's about two and a half hours from New York City.

Foxwoods Casino Resort in Connecticut

Foxwoods is a little over two and a half hours from New York City. There are six casinos at the gambling-hotel complex. It's one of the largest casinos in the United States with slots, table games, sports betting, and poker. MGM Grand at Foxwoods is an expansion connected to the main resort by a moving walkway.

Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway, Yonkers Westchester, New York

Empire City is another racino like Aqueduct, with video slot machines. It's connected to the Yonkers Raceway. Empire City is spitting distance from New York City. It's just north of the Bronx and about 30 minutes from Queens. The racino opened in 2006. The minimum age to play the slot machines is 18, unlike other casinos in the region, where the minimum age to play slots is 21.

Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem in Pennsylvania

This casino is under two hours from New York City, in Bethlehem, PA. It opened in 2009 and now features slot machines and table games.

Mount Airy Casino Resort

Yes, beautiful Mount Airy Lodge is now Mount Airy Casino Resort. A completely new casino and hotel resort opened in 2007. It has slots and table games. The casino is less than two hours from New York City.

Parx Casino and Racing

Located in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, this horse racing and casino gambling resort was formerly known as Keystone Racetrack and Philadelphia Park. The casino offers slot machines, table games, and card games. It's more than an hour and a half from New York City, located between Trenton and Philadelphia.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Pennsylvania

This is a racino in Pennsylvania, which bears the more famous and much larger Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut. It offers slot machines, table games, and horse racing. It's more than a two hour drive from New York, closer to two and a half hours.
