Celebrations and Menorah Lightings

Hanukkah (also spelled Chanukah) is from sunset, December 11, to sunset, December 19, this year. There are Hanukkah celebrations happening throughout Queens, and here are a few of the bigger events.

Largest Menorah in Queens
The Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council sponsors what's probably the largest Hanukkah menorah in the borough. This year there's a lighting at the Chabad of Eastern Queens as well as at Bay Terrace mall. The celebration at the mall includes live music and dancing, latkes, raffle, and even a fire juggling juggler.

Chanukah Party in Astoria
Hot latkes, soup, and cider; candlelighting, music, singing; face-painting, games, and Chanukah skits at Astoria Center of Israel.

Klez Dispensers band performs klezmer music and more. They take the prize for best band name this holiday.
