A reality TV show, The Amazing Race, pits 11 teams of two people (each pairing is a pre-existing relationship), in a worldwide race that covers 75,000 miles. They never know where they're going next or what challenges and puzzles they'll have to do once there. Some challenges are physical, other mental. Budgets and restrictions on plane travel make it even more difficult for them. They have to get around any which way they can, including taxi, bicycle, train, boat, and even horse or camel. Their relationships and lives are forever changed by this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The teams that fall farthest behind are eliminated as the race progresses. In the final episode, three teams struggle to reach the destination first and win the million-dollar prize.

This isn't the first time that The Amazing Race has drawn on Queens, New York, talent. The second-place finishers in season 2 were from Queens, and that season's finale was at the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Park.
The Amazing Race has won the Emmy for Best Reality Show twice (in 2003 and in 2004) defeating heavy-hitters like Survivor and The Apprentice. The previous season's Amazing Race 5 was very popular. The Amazing Race 6 started as a mid-season replacement in the fall of 2004. Since the show's popularity has climbed, CBS has moved it to a good prime-time slot.
- The Amazing Race 6 premiered November 16 on CBS
- It is on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
Best of luck to Maria and Meredith. We hope they will soon be crowned the Queens of the competition.
