Usually, his dining companions are pretty patient.

Four or five times a week, with little more than an unlimited MetroCard, his trusty pair of Merrells, and a camera, Dave Cook tracks down (or stumbles across) interesting food from all over the world, often without leaving New York. His website Eating In Translation, which he began in January 2005 as a collection of field notes on things he'd tried (or planned to try), chronicles his discoveries at some 1,800 restaurants, diners, lunch counters, cafés, street vendors, fairs, festivals, grocers, and greenmarkets. Much of this food is foreign, at least to Dave (that's where the "translation" comes in); typically it's inexpensive and procured in casual, even humble settings.

Despite his relentless grazing, Dave's "to eat" list is longer than ever. Lately he's been spending more time in the kitchen, trying to live up to his family name.
