Guide Review - Bakery Review: Catalano Brothers Bakery in Middle Village
Catalano Brothers Bakery is a classic local Italian bakery serving the heavily Italian neighborhood of Middle Village. A loaf of their semolina bread, seeded or plain, will only cost you a dollar, but you will talk about it for the next two days or at least until you go back for another. I recommend all their excellent breads and rolls. Their cookies (by the pound) and pastries are good too. Some lucky mornings the bakery offers cinnamon rolls, but these aren't the sticky yet dried-out cumbersome buns found in midtown Manhattan. They are freshly baked, perfectly moist, and just sweet enough. Unfortunately, you need to go elsewhere for your caffeine fix. Avoid the bakery's lukewarm coffee, and though there is an espresso machine, I've never heard it used.
