Africa Alive! — Free African Music Concert in Long Island City

This Saturday the Queens Council on the Arts is sponsoring an evening of free African music.
  • The program begins at 7 p.m. with Super Manden and the Abdoulaye Diabate Ensemble (pictured) performing traditional griot songs from Mali, Guinea, and Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast).
  • At 7:45 p.m. Balozi Dola takes the stage with contemporary Tanzanian Hip Hop.
  • Coco Sukali follows with Congolese Soukous and Rumba.
The Museum exhibit Looking Both Ways, which highlights the art of the contemporary African Diaspora, will be open during the performances.
