Astorian Weekend Edition - February 3
By Flooz of Joey in Astoria
Before you start your drinking Sunday, you have Saturday to go out and do a good deed. There's a great group in LIC called Hour Children. They help mothers transition back into normal life after incarceration and make sure their children are doing well. Volunteer your time, or at least unload your unwanted furniture and clothes at one of their thrift stores. It all helps!
After doing something for your soul, do something for your body! If you get the winter aches like I do, massages are a welcome relief. I'm convinced it's got something to do with hunching your body away from the freezing wind and tensing up so you don't slip on crazy patches of ice. Whatever causes it, The Yoga Room (32-32 Steinway) can fix it. And you thought all they did was yoga, ha! It's right there on Steinway where you get off the train, so the frigid blast is minimal. They've got great massage for the un-Manhattan price of $70 an hour. Add on my favorite hot stones for just $15 more! I can feel the relaxation already.
Have you decided where to go on Sunday? Who's the designated driver? If you want a free party, then stop by the Young Republicans Super Bowl Party... sounds crazy, huh? But really, your local bar should have a happening evening prepared. Try the Irish Rover (37-18 28th Ave) or Sunswick (35-02 35th St) for good standbys. Good luck getting to work on Monday!
