Gourds at Queens County Fair Ah, life in Queens. The elevated subway, the three-family homes, the polyglot neighborhoods... the annual county fair?

The Queens County Farm Museum hosts the annual Queens County Fair this weekend out on the Nassau County border. Pray for good weather because there's going to be pig racing. Other attractions include the Amazing Maize Maze, carnival rides, pie-eating and corn-husking contests, hayrides, petting zoo, and make-your-own scarecrow. Plus there's Irish and German music, blue-ribbon vegetables, and food vendors. The carnival rides are lots of fun, but can be pricey, especially since there's also additional admissions fee.

And your young kids will always get a kick out of hand-feeding the goats and sheep.

  • More - The Amazing Maize Maze is open September 15 to October 28, 2012, on Saturdays and Sundays. $9/$5.

You forgot one or two things;I was at the fair and for many years ,I have entered in the baking competition…there are more than vegetables in the blue ribbon competitions. There are women, children and men,who spend a lot of time with a hot oven to bake for the fair…and as a matter of fact,I got four blue ribbons this year, and a Best In Show!
There are also the wood carving competitons, and the art work and craftworks that are entered as well.People come and see what is entered, get curious or inspired and the next year, they come back with their own entries!
