Last night, Meryl Streep won a best actress Golden Globe for Julie & Julia. She played Julia. The Julie is Queens girl Julie Powell (originally from Austin), who wrote a book about the year she cooked -- in her small Long Island City apartment -- all of the recipes in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
In the movie, Julie (played by Amy Adams) talks a lot about hating Queens, but the real Julie still lives here, so it looks like she came to her senses. Powell has a new memoir out now, Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat, and Obsession.
