The Landmarks Preservation Commission unanimously voted to preserve the facade of the Ridgewood Theatre at 55-27 Myrtle Avenue. They also granted landmark status to P.S. 66 at 85-11 102nd Street in Richmond Hill. The theater, the city's longest-running movie house, was built in 1916, and the school was built in 1899, when Richmond Hill was farmland. The status still needs to be approved by the City Planning Department and then the City Council. Council Member Elizabeth Crowley, who represents Ridgewood, has expressed her support for preserving the theater.
