Dragon Boat Festival in Flushing Meadows Queens

Sunday July 19, 2009
Don't miss the 19th annual Dragon Boat Festival on Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows Corona Park this August. Over 100 teams will compete for $60,000 in prizes. There will be music, dancing, martial arts demonstrations, an ethnic food court, and more. Bring a chair and grab the prime space at the waterside pavilion on the north side of Meadow Lake (the side closest to Unisphere).

Went to it a couple of years ago. It was hot as hell, very little shade, and the boats were so far away when they raced you really couldn’t make them out very well.

They should reschedule it for the spring or the fall, when the weather is much cooler.

The festival is held in the summer because it is a Chinese summer tradition. Plus, you should never mess with Dragons :D
