There’s a crane or two that also inhabit this pond. Has anyone heard any word if they were shanghaied along with the geese?

Yes, definitely Tilley Park. As mentioned previously, Jamaica High School is in the background. Eons ago, we used to call the park “Goose Pond.”

Agreed. Jamaica H.S. was recently landmarked. Now all the “old town” H.S. (Flushing, Newtown, Jamaica) are landmarked, Even tho they are not the original buildings they are in impressive settngs.

Yes this is our Goose Pond Park. I grew up in the area and we would ice skate in the Winter. This small kettle lake is just north of Hillside Ave in front of Jamaica High School. I have a picture of the pond when there were no houses just a natural pond. There were several ponds like this in the Hills of Jamaica that were filled in by developers in the 1920s when the houses went up. It was once maintained by a German ladies group from the area and later turned over to the city. Captain George Tilly(they named the park after him) lived in his home on the corner of Hillside ave and 164th Street in a farm house.

Goose Pond is a great child hood memory for me. We used to go ice skating there. It was a great place to go sledding down the hill and end up in the frozen pond. I haven’t been there in almost 40 years. I just google earthed it and saw the pond is still there. Has anybody been there lately?
