Fresh Fruit and Vegetables in Queens

Monday June 1, 2009
Do you know about your local farmers markets in Queens? You might not know that there are also 10 local CSA groups in the borough: that's Community Support Agriculture.

With a CSA, you sign up for a weekly share of the organic produce from a farm, usually one out on eastern Long Island or New Jersey. Then once a week for the season, you collect, from a local drop-off site, your box of just-picked veggies and fruits. For instance, in August the Golden Earthworm Farm sends strawberries, beets, broccoli, swiss chard, and lettuce to the Forest Hills and Doulgaston CSAs. If you cook often, it's a good deal, and you're supporting local agriculture.
