- US Open Eats - Top 10 Restaurants Near the US Open
Rachel Wharton at the Daily News picks where to eat and drink when you're within the US Open grounds, and Ed Levine rounds up restaurants on the way. And here's my long-time top 10 restaurants that you can hit on the way to the Open -- either by LIRR or 7 subway. But the best deal is to avoid the expense at the Open and the hassle of eating elsewhere, and just get your hand stamped and try the snack carts roving Flushing Meadows Park.
- Yi Pin Chinese Cuisine [Eating in Translation]
Cold sesame noodles at Yi Pin Chinese Cuisine (40-04 Union St, Flushing, 718-939-3489) are spicy, cold, and crunch with julienned cucumbers.
- El Jamon, don't sleep on it! [Joey in Astoria]
Sooz has a lotta love for the 3-course $13 lunch at El Jamon (25-51 Steinway (25-51 Steinway, Astoria). The third couse is a 10-oz rib eye and that seals the deal for a post-meal Sunday afternoon in the park.
- Pio Pio: Roasted chicken for giant appetites [Salty / Savory / Sweet]
Another convert to the Pio Pio (8415 Northern Blvd, Jackson Heights, 718-426-1010), but yikes, they ordered too much. Just because the menu is short, don't think the portions are anything but big enough to share at one of my favorite all-time restaurants in Queens.
