- Dazed and Confused: The Quest for Iced Coffee [Shauna Eats Sunnyside]
Shauna Eats Sunnyside and hits her stride with this mega-post on iced coffee in the neighborhood. I've only had the coffee at her top pick: Baruir Coffee ( 40-07 Queens Blvd, Sunnyside, 718-784-0842). It's an awesome place that does one thing (that I love) very, very, very well. Shauna points out the ice cubes made of coffee, a perfect detail at Baruir's.
By the way, Shauna's on a roll: she pans Ariyoshi and looks to Gaslight for salvation and finds another hope of salvation: the almond croissants at La Marjolaine French Bakery. Lucky neighborhood that Sunnyside.
- Cuisine Queens - Hit the Streets for the Food Olympics!
[NY Post]
Not exactly the Olympics of eating...it's a $15 eat report of an afternoon in Jackson Heights and Woodside that found good Mexican at El Paso (64-06 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, 718-943-7818), plus three more.
- Hyderabadi [Eating in Translation]
When's Dave Cook going to get a full-time gig writing up his food coups? His Jeopardy winnings can last only so long.... Dave's latest discovery is a well-timed chicken biryani at squirrel-hole Hyderabadi (64-02 35th Ave, Woodside, 718-989-7658). He also found double merguez sausage sandwiches at Hallal Sandwich Shop (25-61 Steinway St, Astoria, 718-726-9262).
- Hooray for Yuk Hwe: Korea’s Answer to Steak Tartare [Serious Eats]
Dang! Here's a new one to me: "raw beef tenderloin with vegetables" or yuk hwe at San Soo Kap San (38-13 Union Street, Flushing, 718-445-1165).
