- Need a Makanek? Try Cedars Meat House [Village Voice]
Meaty pastries, pita sandwiches spread with garlicy mayo, and even better the grilled kebabs and sausages, all courtesy of a Lebanese "grocery, grill, and halal-meat market," Cedars Meat House (41-08 30th Ave, Astoria, 718-606-1244).
- Taking One for the Team: CheoGaJip's Bulgogi Pizza [Serious Eats]
"The bulgogi pizza was one of the worst things I’ve eaten in a while." Huh! Korean restaurant My Favorite CheoGaJip Chicken (160-24A Northern Blvd, Flushing, 718-445-0806) fries a good chicken, but the novelty of Korean pizza is no fun.
- Soy Bean Chen Flower Shop [Eating in Translation]
"Stop and smell the flowers, and you'll spot the soy custard" at Soy Bean Chen Flower Shop (135-2 Roosevelt Ave, Flushing, 718-321-3982). Dave's not joking; it's literally a flower shop that does a side business in Chinese comfort food, tofu custard.
- Get your fast food fix with these 7 great street eats [Daily News]
In Queens, Rachel ids Tacos Guichos (Gleane St and Roosevelt Ave, Jackson Heights) for tacos and sopes, Mini-Picanteria el Guayaquileno (80th St and Roosevelt Ave, Jackson Heights) for Ecuadoran ceviche, and the central Asian lamb skewers at 41st Ave and Main St in Flushing.
- Lucky Mojo [Goodies First]
"Cajun, Tex-Mex, bbq and sushi? ...the cuisine at Lucky Mojo is about as convoluted as the restaurant’s history." Krista didn't care much for Lucky Mojo (5-14 51st Ave, Long Island City, 718-786-7427).
- 14 spots for grilling in NYC [Daily News]
More a reminder than anything that it's illegal to grill in close quarters, but quite legal to grill in NYC parks. Gives two spots at Alley Pond Park, and one each in Cunningham Park and Forest Park.
