Queens Eats, Restuarant Roundup - Samarkand, Tierra Sana, Pio Pio on Woodhaven Blvd, Windies in Ozone Park

Wednesday February 27, 2008
  • An Uzbeki Tea Parlor on the Boulevard of Death [Village Voice]
Uzbeki Bukharan food at Samarkand (98-98 Queens Blvd, Rego Park, 718-263-4444) gets the thumbs up from Robert Sietsema. He recommends the pickled salads and kebabs of calves' liver that's grilled with lamb fat.
  • Opening - Tierra Sana [Chowhound] via ForestHills72
Creative, healthy vegeatarian food at the new Tierra Sana (100-17 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375, 718-830-0544).
  • Pio Pio on Woodhaven Boulevard [Eatery Row]
Eatery Row discovers the tastes of Pio Pio (62-30 Woodhaven Blvd, Rego Park, 718-458-0606) at its smaller branch in Rego Park. If you want the real Pio Pio experience, you have to go to the original Pio Pio in Jackson Heights, a restaurant full of atmosphere and the same delicious food.
  • Windies [Eating in Translation]
Eating in Translation is exploring Ozone Park and Richmond Hill for the tastes of Guyana and Trinidad, like the pachounie or "sheep belly" and fresh rotis at Windies (105-05 Libery Ave, Ozone Park, 718-322-3223). "Pa-CHOW."
