- Missed It - Can A Free Weekly Be Considered Art? Stephanie Diamond’s Can [Diggings]
I totally missed a public art project at the QMA and Corona Plaza that closed in October. So what does that have to do with food? Artist Stephanie Diamond put together a supermarket circular-esque This Is What I Eat with recipes created by local residents. It was distributed free like all those news/ad weeklies. Brilliant.
- New Isaan Café Charges into Southeastern Astoria Spewing Chilies [Village Voice]
New Thai restaurant in Astoria serves the fiery salads of Isaan, the northeastern region of Thailand. Sietsema recommends skipping the take-out menu and ordering from the "E-San" menu at Poodam's Thai Cuisine (44-19 Broadway, Astoria, Queens 718-278-3010). Here's a surprise: Thai sour sausage "tastes a lot like a Polish kielbasa."
- Opening Soon - It's Jacques-Imo's New Orleans, but Lucky Mojo's That's Opening in Long Island City [QueensWest]
Post says opening this week, but the folks at Luckys Mojo's (5-14 51st Ave, Long Island City, 718-786-RIBS) tell me they hope to open next week (November 20 or later). Lucky Mojo's describes new restaurant: "Our menu has a bit of BBQ (awesome ribs), a bit of Mexican, some great New Orleans items, and yes an awesome selection of sushi and sashimi featuring chefs from Nobu and Haru."
- Opening - Sala Bar and Grill in Flushing
Mediterranean restaurant Sala Bar and Grill (189-11 Northern Blvd, Flushing, 718-888-0633) opened recently in Flushing in a former living room (sala) with outdoor cafe as well. The owners used to the Aphrodite's Sweets bakery on Franny Lew and still make desserts for Peter Lugers and Wolfgangs Steakhouse. Sala is doing a Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and all the fixing this year for $25. (More Queens restaurants serving Thanksgiving dinner).

"I Went All the Way to Forest Hills and All I Got Was This Lousy Peanut Butter Granola Bar" says Project Me.
- Queens Eats [Toby and Matt]
Nice round-up of a couple everyday eats in Astoria and a couple more in Sunnyside and Jackson Heights. I'll agree with them about Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant (2273 31st St, Astoria, 718-726-8708), but who would order a turkey burger at an Irish pub like P.J. Horgan's (4217 Queens Blvd, Sunnyside, 718-361-9680)? It's got no chance in the broiler. Not enough fat.

“but who would order a turkey burger at an Irish pub”
A vegetarian : )
Though I kind of agree with you. Toby often talks about one place having a “good” turkey and another having a “bad” one. I can never really tell the difference, but this one at P.J.’s was good enough I guess.
Ha! It’s a long run from vegetarian to veal.
