Queens Eats, Restaurant Roundup - Mickey's Sushi, Top Thai in Michelin, Cheburechnaya, Sunday Night Dinners in Astoria, and Shaggy Mane Mushrooms in Forest Park

Wednesday October 17, 2007
  • Mickey's Sushi to Bayside
Forest Hills top-sushi joint Mickey's Place has closed its doors, but a tipster writes not only is it moving to Bayside, but to 40-17 Bell Blvd, Bayside, NY 11361, according to its liquor license announcement. Geez, I hope so. Sushi is a black-hole in Queens with Mickey's a long shining star whose light had dimmed in recent months. Here's to a fine rebirth in Bayside.
  • Zagat, Michelin dub Woodside fave top Thai place [Daily News]
No surprise to you. The big names have got around to naming Sripraphai (64-13 39th Ave) the "No.1 choice for Thai fare in the entire city." See our best Thai restaurants in NYC for more top Thai. The only other Queens restaurant to rank in the Zagats top 50 for the city was Trattoria L'incontro (21-76 31st St, Astoria, 718-721-3532).
    • "Several Queens restaurants made the bib-wearer bible for the first time: Five Guys in College Point, and Bistro 33, Island, Momento and Ovelia in Astoria."
  • Cheburechnaya [Avenue Food]
Bukharan restaurant Cheburechnaya (92-09 63rd Dr, Rego Park, 718-897-9080) serves up the kebabs, samosa-like chebureki, humus, baba ganoush, and soups with Chinese roots. "Offal and organ meat lovers, you've hit the jackpot. "
  • Foraging With "Wildman" Steve Brill
Steve Brill has been foraging NYC parks for years, finding great flavors in some of Queens' better known parks. He's got two Queens events in November that should be excellent for mushrooming if this warm weather keeps up. Shaggy mane mushrooms in Forest Park? Yep, they're no shaggy dog story, just delish. Enoki and oyster mushrooms in Alley Pond? Pray for rain.
