Free During the US Open - New York City in Miniature

Monday August 27, 2007
Panorama of New York City at Queens Museum of Art Headed to the US Open this week? If your ticket doesn't let you in until 4 p.m., then you'll have chance to see The Panorama of New York City for free. It's an insanely detailed, huge, scale-model of the entire city (all five boroughs), originally done for the 1964-65 Worlds Fair, and updated within the last ten years. The Panorama is the keystone exhibit at the Queens Museum of Art (QMA), just a seven minute walk from the US Open (go straight from South Gate), and free to the public during the Open.

Also on exhibit are the dramatic drawings of artist Il Lee, World's Fair memorabilia (the park was the site of two Worlds Fairs, and more temporary exhibits. See more on the current exhibits at the QMA website.

The museum opens at noon this week, closing at 6 p.m. (8 p.m. on Fridays), and, then starting next week (after Labor Day), 10 a.m. til 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 p.m. on weekends.
