- Bourdain and Zimmern at Kabab Cafe, Astoria, Queens [YouTube - Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations ]
Our fave Kabab Cafe (25-12 Steinway St, Astoria, 718-728-9858) hits the big time on the Travel Channel's Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. Superb! TV is really Ali's second medium (after the kofte kabab). If only Bourdain had to get up and move his table so another diner could exit, then we would really have seen the true Kabab Cafe on the teevee.
- New Peruvian + Starbucks = Diversity Lives in Jackson Heights? [Nueva York]
Urubamba (8620 37th Ave, Jackson Heights, NY 11372, 718-672-2224) "a white-tablecloth Peruvian spot" has just opened up, and La Gran Uruguaya bakery is another new addition. And the Starbucks rumors are percolating.
- Burmese Fun Fair [Eating In Translation]
Eating in Translation has an excellent report -- as deliciously detailed as always -- on the annual Burmese church fair held in Briarwood. This is must reading for those who dream of "near the river" rice noodles at next year's fest.
- Rego Park - Home to Queens’ First Trader Joes [OuterB]
Something is up with the planned opening of Trader Joe's (to be located at 90-30 Metropolitan Ave, Forest Hills).
