- Upcoming - Singapore Chili Crab Festival
Riverview Restaurant (201 50th Ave) in Long Island City hosts NY's 4th Annual Tiger Beer Singapore Chili Crab Festival this August. The free festival has Singapore-style street food, lion dancers, martial arts, acupressure massage, and even horoscope readings. Just one question: How's it all going to fit in Rivewview? Sounds like a good afternoon to stroll between Gantry Plaza State Park and the festival. (Festival used to be held at Brooklyn waterfront. This is the first year in LIC.) - 4th Annual Tiger Beer Singapore Chili Crab Festival NY, August 19, 2007, noon- 6 p.m., free, Riverview, 48th/50th Aves, Long Island City - More at Tiger Beer
- Pita With a Generous Helping of Quirkiness [NY Times]
OUr fave the Kabab Cafe gets a good write-up in the NY Times $25 and under section. The only problem is this means more waiting time!
- Critter Alert! - Buddha Bodai [Oda.com]
Long-time fave and 100% vegetarian Buddha Bodai (42-96 Main St, Flushing) served a little extra protein with the dim sum the other day. Is the Bodai headed downhill?
- A real NY slice of pizza [ tinycult]
You want a slice like the one you had as a kid? The "tinycult" recommends Margherita Pizza (163-04 Jamaica Ave, Jamaica, 718-657-5780). "The counter guys told me that the owners who are in their 70s come in each morning at 4:00 AM to make the dough and sauce from scratch. This is pizza that is being made with pride and love."
- First Taste - Disappointed at Ran Japanese Restaurant in Forest Hills
Our recent first meal of sushi at Ran (10301 Metropolitan Ave, Forest Hills, 718-897-6530) was a bummer. No liquor license and no A/C was tolerable, but the sushi wasn't as fresh as it should be. The more recent posts on Ran at Chowhound are turning down as well.
- RackedWire: Trader Joe's Queens Gets Shelving & More! [Racked]
Trader Joe's is well on the way to opening at Metropolitan Ave and Woodhaven Blvd, a corner of Forest Hills/Rego Park/Glendale.
