Astoria, New York

Tuesday July 24, 2007
Astoria Park Track I love Astoria. I know it's a great place to visit, and from what people have told me for years, it's a great place to live. Astoria is where old and new Queens mix and thrive with lively restaurants, good parks, plenty of culture, and a fantastic assortment of people. Compare its quality of life and cost of living to Brooklyn and Manhattan, and Astoria is the clear winner.

For more on the neighborhood, here's our updated profile of Astoria with the basics on local real estate (including recent prices), history, safety, and transportation. For more insights into what's happening now, try the one-and-only blog Joey in Astoria (the Joeys also writes about Astoria every Thursday for About.com). For history check out the Greater Astoria Historical Society's website, books, and tours. And Forgotten NY uncovers the past in Astoria Village.

Astoria is one big sewer….take a walk on 30th Ave. and you’ll feel like you’re in an international insane asylum….filthy, disgusting low-class people, men spitting in the streets–even the air smells like phlegm—I grew up in Astoria, it was filled with narrow minded blue collar mentality type folks then, and still is…the new immigrants arriving are disgusting—the only breath of fresh air are the artists/young people moving in. No one comes to Astoria for the cafes or restaurants—the restaurants, especially the Greek restaurants are filthy—everything is third rate—hey people, if you can’t afford Manhattan, move to Brooklyn, much much better than Queens.

I think Barb’s comments are in very poor taste and untrue. Barb is ridiculous, a comment troll.

Barb must be delusional , but entitled to her opinion. Astoria is culturally diverse and with its close proximity to Manhattan is a thriving and wonderful neighborhood that is highly sought after. Barb’s words, blue collar, narrow minded, filthy and disgusting truly describe herself as clearly evidenced by her post.
There are much more civilized ways to post your opinion Barb. That certainly is above Barb. Disregard her.
