Howard Beach got its
NY Times spotlight last weekend with a profile in the real estate section. It covers four things Howard Beach is well known for: (1) two incidents of white-on-black violence, (2) the AirTrain connection to JFK, (3) Italian food and families, and (4) the can't-believe-this-is-New-York location on Jamaica Bay.
What's surprising is the fairly reasonable real estate values for a middle-class, fairly suburban neighborhood in Queens, with recent house sales mentioned at $400,000 and $703,000 (and $1+ million). (Also surprising that it's home to the Federation of Black Cowboys.)

Cross Bay Boulevard in Howard Beach has to be the ugliest & tackiest street in all of Queens.
