101-Year-Old Woman Mugged in Jamaica Estates

Though NYC is rated the safest big city in the U.S., New Yorkers can be a little jaded about mugging where no one is killed. Still it boils the blood to hear of a criminal preying on children or the elderly.

Last weekend, March 10, Saturday morning, 101-year-old Rose Morat was beaten and robbed on her way out of her Jamaica Estates apartment building. Thirty minutes later 85-year-old Solange Elizee was also attacked entering her nearby home.

Both women have been released from the hospital, and we just got to salute their gumption and deplore the coward who attacked them.

"I'm quite sure that if had happened when I was younger, I would have been after him," Morat told the Daily News yesterday from her Jamaica Estates home.

"I would have killed him," she fumed, a dark bruise visible on her face. "I'm a very strong woman. I've been that way my whole life."
