- A Korean-Chinese Hybrid With an Oniony Bite [NY Times]
The paper of record continues to eat its way through the best East Asian restaurants in Queens. This time it's Guh Song (47-27 Bell Blvd, Bayside), a Korean joint serving savory jjajangmyun, a noodle dish. That's right: Koreans eat more than just BBQ. But it's in Oakland Gardens? I always thought that was a little south of 47th Avenue, and that anything on main drag Bell Boulevard should gets the Bayside designation. But, hey, if that's what it takes to get a big review for a neighborhood restaurant, then Oakland Gardens it is.
- Bourekas of New York [GridSkipper]
Travel mag GridSkipper gets off its gold-plated five-star throne to indulge bourekas or bureks, the savory meat or cheese pies of the Balkans. Djerdan Burek (34-04A 31st Ave, Astoria) and Cevabdzinica Sarajevo (37-18 34th Ave, Astoria) make their list. Thanks to the Slavs of NY for the link and adding Bosna Express (31-29 12th St, LIC) to the Queens boureka list.
- Good Persian restaurant somewhere? [Chowhound]
Persian food? Well, calling a cuisine Iranian might be a harder sell. The Chowhounds recommend the wonderfully named Persian Tea Room (249-38 Horace Harding Expwy, Little Neck - another recent shout) and Patoug (220-06 Horace Harding Expwy, Bayside -- or, if you prefer, Oakland Gardens).
