NYC Elections 2006 - Voting in Queens
Election Day is this Tuesday, November 7. Unfortunately and fortunately, elections for local representatives seem already seem locked up. Democrats dominate Queens politics so thoroughly that the only actual contests come on Primary Day. In a couple elections, nominees are running unopposed.
There is one New York state race that's a real race. And it's one I can only hope that the Democrat incumbent loses. State Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi may be removed from office even if he wins on Tuesday because he had a state worker chauffeur his wife for years on the tax-payers' dime.
Sure, now that he's been caught, Hevesi is repaying the State to the tune of $170,000. But his primary duty as State Comptroller is "auditing government operations" (quote from website for New York State Office of the State Comptroller). How can we trust this guy again?
Hevesi's Republican challenger J. Christopher Callaghan had little chance until Hevesi's misdeeds came to light. Now it's a real race, and one that demands a clear vote against Hevesi.
This election day Tuesday, November 7, Queens also votes for Senator, Representative in Congress, Governor, State Attorney General, State Senate and Assembly, and Judges for State Supreme Court and Civil Court.
