- Queens Vendor Wins Pushcart Award [NY Times]
Samiul Haque Noor who cooks up spicy Pakistani chicken and lamb at Sammy's Halal (73rd St & Broadway, Jackson Heights) won the coveted title of best street vendor in New York 2006. The "Arepa Lady" of Jackson Heights was also a finalist in the competition.
- New Wine Bar in LIC Above LIE [Eater]
Domaine Bar a Vins (50-04 Vernon Blvd, Long Island City) co-owned by the guy behind next door neighbor Tournesol is open for consumption. (Thanks Dan.)
- New Dinner special at Spicy Mina [Chowhound]
Do you know Spicy Mina (64-23 Broadway, Woodside)? The three-for-the-price-of-two dinner special will give you reason to edge into a different corner of Woodside. Spicy Mina cooks Indian food fresh for each order, time-consuming, but decidedly different from the steam table platters of most places.
- I love Spain: Despana Brand Foods [Roving Gastronome]
"So yesterday I biked to Despana Brand Foods (86-17 Northern Blvd, Jackson Heights) to buy a ham." And another wonderful adventure befalls Zora. (Check out the photos at Despana's site.)
