Whitestone

Monday June 5, 2006
Whitestone, Queens, was the NY Times real estate profile this weekend. It's a mostly suburban neighborhood of single-family homes (and some two-family), many built in the 40s and 50s. In recent year McMansions have crowded in, which prompted residents to apply for and win more restrictive zoning.

The best thing about Whitestone? The water. The community is so close to the Sound, and there are two residents only beaches.

When people refer Whitestone often they include Malba and Beechhurst. They're two smaller subneighborhoods, right on the water. Beechhurst has the largest developments in the area.

  • Whitestone - Neighborhood Profile [NY Times]
  • Housing Costs - NY Times 6/4/06
  • Single-family home, 3-bedrooms - $450,000-$750,000
  • Waterside home in Malba - $1 million+
