Church Tour in Jamaica, Queens
Jamaica was one of Queens original colonial towns, and it still has the churches to prove it. This weekend join a free walking tour to discover the landmarked Grace Episcopal Church and First Presbyterian Church.
You'll also get a peek at a church from another era -- what's now the Tabernacle of Prayer, but was once the Valencia Theater, a grand movie house from the silver screen's heyday. The Valencia's interior is still as spectacular, but religion has replaced the movies.
The tour is free, so there's no reason to miss it. Afterwards, you got to eat. Try the 165th Street pedestrian mall for Caribbean snacks. Or hoof it over to O Lavrador (138-40 101st Ave) for filling Portuguese fare.
