Weekend after weekend urban geographer Jack Eichenbaum is digging for neighborhood gold. This weekend it's Ravenswood, a Long Island City neighborhood, hard on the East River.
Developed as an exclusive richie-rich shore in the nineteenth century, Ravenswood has been up and down and might be headed up again. Recent condo development in the Hallets Cove area has followed years of arts smarts at Socrates and Noguchi. All that new blood is in the midst of old houses, low-level industry, a power plant, warehouses, CostCo, and some of the best public housing in New York. Make sure to join Jack for the whole waterfront tour stretching from Queensbridge to Old Astoria Village.
