World's Fair Souvenir and Memorabilia Show
Have you heard about the recent proposal to bring the World's Fair back to New York City? It's been floated, but nothing has happened yet. What is definite is the affection people have for their time at the 1964-65 World's Fair and the effect of that fair and the 1930-40 World's Fair on Flushing Meadows Park. It could still be the Valley of Ashes if Robert Moses hadn't liked the idea so much.
There's a chance this month to relive some World's Fair memories at a antique and memorabilia show in Bayside. The World's Fair Collectors' Show and Sale features items from 1851 to the most recent World's Fair, with an emphasis on 1964-65 and 1930-40 and videos of those fairs. One of the vendors specializes in World's Fair vintage toys.
Admission is $10, but get a discount by bringing a print-out of this listing.
If you can't make the show but love the World's Fair, then check out the permanent exhibit at the Queens Museum of Art and stop by its gift shop, which has a great stock items from the 1964-65 World's Fair.
