Canoe the East River - Earth Day in Long Island City
Known for industry and these day high-rise condominiums, the Long Island City waterfront actually has a beach and three parks and more waterfront access on the way.
Earth Day, April 22, is a great opportunity to see this rapidly changing area, and maybe even get out on the East River. Help with clean-ups of Rainey Park and Socrates Sculpture Park/Sunswick Beach at Hallets Cove. And enjoy performances in Rainey Park, canoe out onto the East River, and for history buffs, go on a walking tour of the waterfront.
- Update - Due to rain, Earth Day in LIC has been rescheduled for April 29.
Last year the canoe trips out into Hallets Cove were a real success. The folks behind these canoes at the Long Island City Community Boathouse are crazy in the best way.

Hey, this is pretty cool! I’ve been curious about taking a ride on the East River, and a canoe ride sounds great. I’ll be sure to check out the Earth Day stuff on the 22nd!
