Kingfish, Amos and Andy at the Black Spectrum Theatre
An established performance space in southeast Queens, the Black Spectrum Theatre has been filling its seats with folks from throughout New York and fielding inquiries about Kingfish, Amos and Andy from across the states. Carl Clay, the playwright, sets the play in contemporary Harlem where a young man researches the original hit TV and radio series, "Amos 'n' Andy" from the 1950s and earlier.
The success of the show is another feather in the cap of Jamaica and all of southeast Queens. It's no surprise to find quality performances in the same area that is home to the great reality show The Shop, set in a Jamaica, Queens, barbershop, and to home's hip-hop royalty -- Run DMC, LL Cool J, and 50 Cent.
