Invasion of the Urban Vinyls - Trexi at Toy Qube
Urban vinyl is where toys become art, and local Flushing store Toy Qube is pushing it this month with a big two-day event -- Trexi Invades New York -- that brings together toy designers, street artists, illustrators, a sneaker designer, and even a Taiwanese hip-hop group.
If you've never been, Toy Qube is an experience. It's cool and arty, but even more, it's fun. It's -- wow, these are toys! See my profile from last year of Toy Qube.
The event is all about Trexi, a style of designer toys. Each of the 70 plus artists and designers will contribute their own work, with many customizing unique Trexi creations. The list includes graffiti artist NYC LASE, toy designer Tim Tsui, graphic artist No Pattern, fashion designer Jenna Rivers of SVSV, and sneaker designer Jason Bass. Recording artists Lupe Fiasco and Mel of Taiwanese hip-hop group, Machi will be there too. I can't imagine the Flushing Mall has ever before been invaded by such style.
