Big News at Silvercup

Hollywood East! What goes around comes around. Yes, Astoria and Long Island City were once a focal point in the motion picture industry -- back about a hundred years ago, and it's getting that way again.

For the past 20 plus years, Silvercup Studios has grown to be the biggest independent film and TV production facility in New York and all the northeast, filming hits like The Sopranos and Men in Black. It's about to get a lot bigger with the announcement of plans to build a $1 Billion development right on the East River.

Silvercup West -- the name of the proposed development -- will house a museum, studios, stores, and over a thousand apartments. This is huge news for Long Island City, especially for Queens Plaza. The new old Times Square borders this area, and is itself ripe for renewal.
