Music From Underground

Thursday February 9, 2006
Hearing live music while rushing through your evening commute is one of those great New York moments. Sure, I can't get into a lot of what's played, but every so often there's a performer so dang good, I almost consider stopping to listen. Seriously, there are a bunch who deserve to perform for a non-commuting audience.

That's just what Metro's Best is all about. It's a series of performances by musicians who've played in the subways (and were approved by the MTA), and have now come above ground. Musicians include Don Witter, Jr. (classical guitarist), Luellen Abdoo (violinist), Jaili Kandjia Cissoko (Kora player), and Manze Dayila (Empress of Haitian Roots Music).
