Transit Stike Update - Jamaica Buses and Triborough Coach in Queens

Jamaica Buses and Triborough Coach Company are both private bus companies in Queens that are in the process of being take over by the public MTA. Drivers for both companies have voted to strike and are members of the Transport Workers Union.

The bus drivers have started their strike this morning, Monday, December 19. The rest of the union may join them on Tuesday for a city-wide strike.

Jamaica Buses transport about 15,000 riders on weekdays, and Triboro over 42,000 riders, all on local routes in western, central, and southeastern Queens.

Dollar vans arel running along the bus routes, charging up to $5 per person. Legally, they are not allowed to charge any more. Livery cars can also pick up multiple passengers at bus stops, and can charge up to $10 per person.
