Long Island City Transformation
Monday November 21, 2005
The story of Long Island City's transformation, particularly Hunters Point, from industrial to residential real estate hit the NY Times over the weekend. The number and scale of building under construction and under renovation is simply mind-boggling. Joseph Conley, chairman of Community Board 2, gives a sense of the change:
"By and large, there's not one street you can walk down where there's not a new development."
The article gives a good overview of living in the area, but neglects the sense of isolation still palpable on wintry nights off the main drags. If you're want to check out the area, make sure to see Gantry Plaza State Park and see these Hunters Point photos.
