Astorian Weekend Edition - November 18
by Joey In Astoria

Friday November 18, 2005
I know you're exhausted from last night's 11:59 debut of Harry Potter, so tonight pick up a bottle of wine and Netflix it. It's no news to you that our neighb has slim pickings in the fruit of the vine, but at least arm yourself by reading up on a nose for wine.

Saturday hit the QNS Film Festival. It's never too early to study up for amazing your friends at next year's Oscar party. Oscar-entry Paheli is showing at 8 p.m. in Kaufman Zukor Studio Theatre (part of the studios - how cool is that!). Meander down the street afterwards for late night arepas at Jasmin. Soooo good.

Sunday, critically-acclaimed Perhaps Love sends off the festival at a 5:30 showing in the same theater. There are actually a ton of good movies showing all weekend long. You might want to camp out somewhere on 35th Ave.

After the festival would be a good time to start working your way through the QNS Michelin list (and check my notes on the Astoria spots). Try Malagueta (25-35 36th Ave), the only Brazilian entry. That'll be one down, 12 to go.
