Queens News of the Week - October 25

Tuesday October 25, 2005
- Last Tuesday a fire broke out on the Queensboro Bridge during repair work, and closed the bridge to traffic for hours. It has since reopened.

- An arrest has been made in the abduction and rape of a 13-year-old Woodside girl. The brave girl, who had been on her way home from school, escaped from her attacker's van, and was able to give the police a full report. She had been wary of the man who approached her asking for directions, and had tried to flee before he struck her. Police received a tip that led them to the attacker's van.

- In Elmhurst three teenage boys were set upon with knives and baseball bats by a group of 30 young men near Newtown High School. Two of the teens ended up in the hospital, and witnesses claimed the beatings were gang-related.

- Another report of gang activity has come out of downtown Jamaica, where residents live in fear of a Salvadoran gang called MS-13.
